Tasiujarjuaq and Weeneebeg: Bays of Life shares the story of the Cree and Inuit peoples across Hudson Bay (Tasiujarjuaq in Inuktitut) and James Bay (Weeneebeg in Cree) as they work to protect the waters that have sustained them for generations.
In partnership with the Pristine Seas team at the National Geographic Society, our studio helped bring to life stories deeply rooted in local folklore, history, and lived experience. To ensure authenticity, we engaged in extensive cultural research and collaborated with community members, seeking their input and approvals throughout the creative process.
Visually, we embraced a watercolor animation style(—)a choice that reflects the importance of water within the narrative. The result are sequences that honor the beauty, resilience, and cultural strength of the Cree and Inuit communities, and the fragile ecosystems they continue to protect for future generations.
